Note Sorting and Reconciliation

A core function of the Cash Processor role involves meticulous sorting and reconciliation of cash. This includes sorting prepared deposits and banknotes within strict cut-off times. You will also be involved in sending rejected notes for verification and balancing, and then reconciling these rejected notes. Checking for counterfeit currency, dye stains, and physical damage to notes will be part of your duties. Furthermore, you will handle cash transfers to vaults, complete end-of-day cash balancing and reconciliation, and manage any shortages or surpluses according to the correct procedures.

Desktop Deposit Processing

Learners will also be trained in desktop deposit processing. This involves carefully checking containers and bags for damage or any signs of tampering, and promptly reporting any anomalies to the Team Controller. You will acknowledge containers or bags on the applicable system and ensure that deposits from different customers are kept separate. Processing deposits on the same day they are received is crucial, as is balancing them on the system. Completing end-of-day reconciliation and accurately preparing cash for note counting are also key responsibilities.

Coin, Payroll, and Change Processing

The learnership may also include responsibilities related to processing bulk coin deposits in line with SBV policies. You will sort and process teller coin transfers. For payroll and change transactions, you will process them according to customer service-level agreements and report any discrepancies to the Team Controller. Preparing and sealing floats as required, processing payroll entries within set timeframes, and reporting any defective equipment are also part of the role. You may need to obtain bank authorization before dispatching certain items.

Bank System Integrated Deposit Processing

A modern aspect of the role involves validating transactions that are integrated with bank systems, ensuring they meet all bank requirements. You may need to report account numbers that are not correctly linked to the bank system and verify deposit account numbers. Escalating issues such as system downtime or delayed batches will be important. Your contribution will help prevent delays, losses, or incorrect postings within the banking system.

Prepack and Treasury Duties

As a Cash Processor learner, you may also assist with prepack and treasury duties. This includes packing and unpacking bank and ATM cash, managing the necessary consumables for packing, and confirming that bag and seal numbers are accurately recorded. You must use all equipment according to SBV’s Standard Operating Procedures and take good care of company assets.
